Tango Sueño Academy COVID-19 Policy and Information

It has been three years! One in a hundred years lethal virus causing millions of covid-19 deaths worldwide including more than 1,000,000 Americans as well as legendary tango dancers, musicians and some local tango community members. After the Omicron surge in January 2022 the nature of the pandemic has changed. This variant evolved to a family of most cantagious versions but has been less lethal compared to the awful initial days in 2020. Moreover, even vaccinated people seem to transmit the new variants therefore at this moment in time, it is worth switching to a mindset of personal responsibility; wearing a mask and getting vaccinated with new updates is the best self protection one could have.

Thanks to those CT dancers who overcame their fear early on and got vaccinated then boosted, keeping CT covid numbers relatively low as well as making unvaccinated Nutmeggers and children safer too.

Please read the policies below carefully and note that Tango Sueño reserves the right to admit any participant if they are deemed to be careless about COVID-19.

As of January 1, 2023, Tango Sueño Academy considers
"Vaccinated" to mean "Fully vaccinated" as defined by CDC

Vaccination/Test/Mask Requirements as of 1/1/2023

Group Classes: Mask optional for all dancers, covid-19 vaccinations are nor required but highly recommended including the new Omicron updates. Limited number of unvaccinated dancers will be allowed if they are deemed to take covid safety seriously. Those who are concerned about themselves are recommended to wear a KN95 mask and get the Omicron booster.

Milongas: Vaccinated/Unvaccinated dancers are welcome, mask optional.
Any dancer will be free to ask their partner to wear a mask during their dance, regardless of vaccination status.

Privates: To be discussed with the instructor.

Omicron and COVID-19 general information
(as of 4/1/2022)

With Omicron cases staying down in the US, and with the approval of second boosters for some demographics, it appears safe to further lift some restrictions while adapting to the upcoming endemic phase of COVID-19.

First, here some facts:

- Vaccinated people are 16 times, boosted people 44 times less likely to be hospitalized for COVID-19 (Source: cdc)
- Two dose mRNA vaccine is 57%, three dose mRNA 90% effective against Omicron hospitalizations (Source: Forbes/UK Health Security Agency)
- Vaccinated people are less likely to transmit Omicron (Source: Recent Danish study)
- Omicron is still dangerous to unvaccinated people. In the US 3187 people died on February 17, from COVID-19 likely from the Omicron variant.
- Antigen self tests are very good in detecting if an individual is contagious at that moment.
- N95 (or KN95) masks protect the wearer against infection from Omicron, better than 3 layer surgical masks. Fabric masks or home made face covers are not recommended.

Policies when a dancer tests positive for covid-19

As of Jnauary 1st, 2023, there have been no known cases of covid-19 transmission during any Tango Sueño classes and Milongas. However, Omicron is so contagious it might be impossible to avoid any transmission during our return back to normalcy. Fortunately, fully vaccinated and boosted people are very likely to avoid severe disease. Here are the guidelines to address when a Tango Sueño dancer tests positive for covid-19:

- If a dancer has covid-19 symptoms, especially congestion, sore throat or fever, they have to take a self-test. If they test positive, they have to avoid all activities for 7 days from onset of symptoms or the day they test positive, whichever is earlier.
- If they want to return to class on day 7, they have to submit an antigen test result. If the result is still positive, they have to wait until day 10.
- After they return to class, they have to wear an N95 mask until 14 days after the initial symptoms or first positive test result, whichever is earlier.
- Dancers with a sore throat or fever should avoid class and take a covid-19 self-test. Tango Sueño may require a rapid antigen test if any participant exhibits symptoms during any activity.

Tango Sueño Reserves the right to admit anyone deemed unsafe about COVID -19

Anyone found to submit a fake vaccine record or a test result will be permanently banned from any Tango Sueño Activity
